Triline was a general all-purpose forum made for the members of Nintenzone once we all started to grow bored with Nintendo. For the admin, it was a chance to hand-code a forum software free of the bloat of vBulletin (our previous forum software). For me, it was a chance to design a forum as minimal and stylish as I wanted, without having to worry about things like attracting new members or selling any services. Our community had about ten active members by the point of these designs.
The homepage.
The “dotty” style banner was generative, and would look different on every page reload. Check out the PHP file, and refresh away.
Some default avatars I made based on the “Dotty” style logo and banner.
And finally, the posts themselves—in two different color styles.
We had built a system where each member could draw their username and have it show up under their avatar, and you can see in the mockups above. This added a nice human touch and aspect of personalization to the forum threads, and I wish more forums could implement something similar. It was too good of an idea to be limited to one tiny (and now defunct) forum.
